On Case Assignment and the Coordination of Unlikes: The Limits of Distributive Features

The paper discusses the notion of distributivity of features in coordinate structures and demonstrates its limits in unlike coordination constructions involving conjuncts bearing different grammatical cases. Two solutions are presented, one - termed "liberal" - necessitating certain extensions to the formal machinery of LFG, and another - termed "conservative" - which recycles the mechanism of off-path constraints.
