When the Switch-Reference marker is a suffix the Marking clause precedes the
Reference clause; when the Switch-Reference marker is a verbal prefix, the Marking clause
follows the Reference clause.

    Following Munro 1980, Haiman & Munro identify the clause in which switch-reference is marked as the marking clause, and the clause with reference to which it is marked as the reference clause.
