Career
We congratulate Katerina Kalouli (P8) on the successful completion of her dissertation “Hy-NLI: A Hybrid system for state-of-the-art Natural Language Inference” this past March and on her new position as Akademische Rätin at the LMU in Hinrich Schütze’s research group, starting August 1, 2021. We wish Katerina Kalouli all the best in this new post-doctoral position, while we spend our time figuring out how to move forward without the many energetic contributions she has made to the FOR 2111 and to our department on so many levels.

Visitors
Krishna Parajuli from Kathmandu is staying with us from from July 1st till August 17th. Krishna did his dissertation last year on motion verbs in Nepali and would be happy to interact with anybody on motion verbs, Nepali or other topics.
Maria Biezma (she is our Mercator Fellow) and Ana Arregui are with us from June 13th till July 13th.

Congratulations to Anna Czypionka (P1) who was awarded a grant from the Internationalisation Funding in the Excellence Strategy for hybrid co-teaching with N. Schiller at the University of Leiden (NL) in the autumn semester 2021.
Katharina Zahner (P6) was one of the winners of the Zukunftskolleg’s mentorships. https://www.uni-konstanz.de/zukunftskolleg/support-measures/mentorship/ and is now an associated fellow at the Zukunftskolleg. Together with her proposed mentor, Prof. Anne Cutler (MARCS Institute, University of Western Sydney), she will be working on a project entitled “Towards promoting awareness for the teaching and learning of prosody in a foreign language”. Prof. Cutler will be visiting her mentee for one week in June 2020. At the end of the visit, there will be a related workshop “TiPToP: “Trends in pedagogical transmission of prosody” on June 24-25. https://www.ling.uni-konstanz.de/en/tiptop/ .

Wilhelm von Humboldt-Preis für Dr. Tina Bögel
Das Werk sei beispielhaft in seiner Verknüpfung von innovativer Modellierung und bestechender empirischer Analyse‚ heißt es in der Laudatio der Deutschen Gesellschaft für Sprachwissenschaft (DGfS). Die Würdigung gilt der Doktorarbeit ‚The Syntax-Prosody Interface in Lexical Functional Grammar‚ von Dr. Tina Bögel (Bild).
Die Konstanzer Sprachwissenschaftlerin
erhielt auf der DGfS-Jahrestagung in Saarbrücken dafür den Wilhelm von Humboldt-Preis. Der Preis wird jährlich für die beste linguistische Nachwuchsarbeit vergeben. Er ist mit 2.000 Euro dotiert.
“Die Arbeit von Tina Bögel entwickelt ein Modell der Prosodie-Syntax- Schnittstelle, das Fälle fehlender Übereinstimmung zwischen syntaktischer und prosodischer Gliederung überzeugend erfassen kann”, heißt es in der Laudatio weiter. Im Zentrum der Dissertation der Nachwuchswissenschaftlerin steht das Spannungsverhältnis zwischen Syntax und Prosodie, die Worte einer Sprache nach unterschiedlichen Regelsystemen zusammengruppieren. So werden zum Beispiel die zwei Worte ‚Weißt du?” in der Syntax als unterschiedliche Einheiten gesehen, in der Aussprache aber zusammengezogen: ‚Weißte?” oder ‚weisch?” Dieses Spannungsverhältnis wird in der Arbeit anhand einer Reihe von Beispielen aus verschiedensten Sprachen (Degema, Paschto, Hochdeutsch und Schw√§bisch) genauer beleuchtet und schlussendlich aufgelöst.
Der Nachwuchspreis der Deutschen Gesellschaft für Sprachwissenschaft prämiert herausragende Doktorarbeiten, die in methodischer, theoretischer oder inhaltlicher Hinsicht bedeutende Beiträge zur linguistischen Forschung darstellen und sich für die weitere Forschung als wegweisend erweisen können.
Tina Bögel ist wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin am Fachbereich Sprachwissenschaft der Universität Konstanz und in der Forschergruppe ‚Questions at the interfaces‚. An der Universität Konstanz hat sie 2007 auch ihr erstes Staatsexamen in den Fächern Deutsch und Englisch abgelegt. 2015 wurde sie hier bei Prof. Dr. Frans Plank promoviert
